Milton History - Access Milton

Milton County was created in 1857 from parts of Cobb, Cherokee, Dekalb, Gwinnett, and Forsyth Counties. This area was named after Georgia's first secretary of state, John Milton. The county seat was Alpharetta. The depression created hard times for Milton's citizens and it's infrastructure was suffering. When Fulton County offered to pave Milton's roads and improve their schools, the offer was too good to pass up. Old Milton County became no more.

In the July of 2006, voters went to the polls and voted to incorporate and become the new City of Milton.
